Our silly spaniel has strained her back somehow, either from jumping or from slipping on ice. We're trying to keep her on one level and away from stairs, but preventing her from leaping onto the couch/rocking chair/bed is another matter altogether.

It is my couch, and I am pretty.

Flat spaniel.

She's feeling better now, we've got her on steroids and they're helping. I'm calling her B3- Bitty Barry Bonds. Dad thinks I'm weird, but he also laughed.

Ahhh!! A cocker?? We had cockers (buff colored ones) when I was growing up. My mother had a friend who bred Cocker Spaniel showdogs and every once in a while there would be a puppy in the litter that wasn't show material, so we had three scratch-and-dent Cockers. One right after the other. All of them were named Taffy, which I didn't realize was weird until I got to college.

My mom wanted a cocker because she'd had one as a little girl and also because she was tired of lifting big Belgian Sheepdogs and Australian Shepherds off the grooming table.

I love the term scratch and dent. We got a couple of those in the Belgian variety, including one who'd been dumped at an animal shelter in Anchorage because the dimwit owner hadn't been able to sell all the puppies she'd brought up from Texas. She'd bred two pet-quality dogs and when the puppies weren't showable, she first tried to sell them at a show in Anchorage with no success and then left them at the pound rather than take them home to Texas with her. Why she decided to bring them to Alaska in the first place, I don't know. Anyway, mom rescued all the pups and they found good homes.

She's much perkier today. Saturday had us all worried, because she was so listless. The muscle relaxant worked well.
