I'm sure you're dying to know about UFC 70:Nations Collide, from Manchester, England. Even if you aren't, I'll tell you anyway.:)

We only got to see 5 of the 10 fights, out of which one was frustrating, two were solid but not fascinating, one was boring and the last one was stellar. However, they put it on Spike so I could see it, and at least I got ideas on what not to do.

The first fight was Cheick Kongo (France) vs Assuerio Silva (Brazil.) This was the frustrating one. Kongo has great stand-up, but no groundfighing skills. My friend Sarah watched with me and even a total novice could see how badly he was doing on the ground. Silva was supposed to be good in jujitsu, but while he could get Kongo to the ground, he seemed unable to do anything after they got there. Kongo won largely because of his standup and Silva's poor showing. If Kongo spent the next six months focusing on grappling, he'd be lethal. As it is, he was lucky.

Then there was Michael Bisping (England) vs Elvis Sinosic (Australia.) Hometown boy against the Australian spoiler. Ditto Matt Grice (US) Vs. Terry Etim (England) Both solid fights, not terribly exciting.

The Most Boring Fight of the Night award goes to: Andrei Arlovski (US, originally Belarus) Vs. Fabricio Werdum (Brazil.) You'd think with a nickname like Pit Bull Arlovski would be shredding the other fighter. You'd be wrong. And bored. Those were 15 minutes I can't get back to stand in line somewhere. This was supposed to be a fight, but you couldn't prove it by Arlovski, who spent the whole time just avoiding Werdum. Arlovski won. Personally, I think they should have made them redo it and actually fight.

The best fight of the night was Gabriel Gonzaga (Brazil) vs Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (Croatia) who's a former head of the Croatian anti-terrorist squad and current member of the Croatian Parliment. Interesting day job, especially because he's going back to the anti-terrorist squad in November when his term expires. Cro Cop was the favorite because of his wicked kicks. Instead, Gonzaga blasted him over the state line with a right kick to the head. Cro Cop went down like a ton of bricks and the referee tackled Gonzaga off him, then nearly freaked when he saw Cro Cop's right leg. When he collapsed, the right knee twisted and his foot was cranked 180 degrees. Amazingly enough, he was able to walk out of the arena once he regained conciousness. I don't know how much damage was done. I hope he'll be ok.

"Matt Hughes, he is a dick. A very talented dick. I'm looking forward to the fight. I feel like a winner already just getting to hit him in the face."
Matt Serra's feelings on getting to coach the Ultimate Fighter 6 season with Matt Hughes. They will have a title fight at the end of the season. Hee. This should be a lively group. Of course, the current season is pretty interesting. I'm just waiting for an all-house brawl, and that's not counting the coaches!
