Dear Alaska State Troopers Show,

I love the show- I get homesick every time I watch it. One tiny caveat- your narrator keeps referring to the "Alaskan outback." There is no such thing. It's the Alaskan Bush. Please correct this for my sanity- I keep grinding my teeth and it's worrying my dentist..

There's a difference between the outback and the bush? What is it? And Alaska has some? XD

The bush isundeveloped land off the road systems. Outback is a specifically Australian term- they use it to describe areas more remote than the bush, according to Wikipedia (considering how remote our bush can be, I don't get that, but it's their country.) Alaska has lots of bush- there's about only 4900 miles of paved road in the state (a fair amount of dirt ones, though), and the state is 663,268 square miles in size. To put it into perspective, Germany is 137,847 square miles. You could put four Germanies in Alaska and still have room for Poland!

Anyway, nobody ever refers to the Alaskan outback- it just sounds silly.

The size of the United States always baffels me when I think about it.

It's funny, when you look at a map of Europe, in like an atlas, it takes up a page. Then you look at a map of the United States and it also takes up a page. And you get this feeling that they're about the same size.

And then someone tells you that Alaska alone holds four Germanies and it makes my head spin.

Well, we're the biggest state in the Union. The next biggest is Texas, at 268,581 square miles. I like to tell Texans that it's a nice little state. Thus far, nobody has belted me. Yet. *g*
